This is only a surprise to self-deluded fools who are willing to ignore the obvious and choose instead to whine about the current commander-in-chief prosecuting this war on terrorism.

Even more fascinating (local fascination) is the fact that folks have voted (and when they did, < 5) on my original post. Of course, I am gratified. Sounds like if prisoners at Abu Ghraib fart at the same time will cause much more severe damage than this thing they found. Can't the Iraqis produce anything more powerful? ;P

What is interesting is that this shell was fired, but not in the correct manner to activate the Sarin properly. That would indicate that they didn't know what they had their hands on, it was detonated like an improvised bomb. That would also indicate that the shell was grabbed from a yet to be found stockpile, not just a single stand alone device. Not really: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3722255.stm[^] However, a senior coalition source has told the BBC the round does not signal the discovery of weapons of mass destruction or the escalation of insurgent activity. He said the round dated back to the Iran-Iraq war and coalition officials were not sure whether the fighters even knew what it contained.

I think it mainly depends on who is manufacturing the stuff. If the Iraqis ever made their own vehicle, I would not bet it against a Toyota or any other Japanese car, even if a first-class race car driver is behind the wheel. The whole WMD issue is a joke. But suicide bombers, that is something you have to be afraid of.

Cruise Missiles have mass-destroyed substantially more stuff in Iraq than a single grenade of dubuious origin causing "very small dispersal of agent."
