How do you start your day at the office?

would anyone like to share their first 30 mins at the office? I basically get in about 20 to 30 mins early and spend all that time checking my emails and reading the news. The next 15 mins or so goes in planning out the next 8 hrs of the day. Yesterday I arrived a little late (according to my time)...so I lost that 20-30 mins...since this was very rare I was wondering if I should have started the same way (as usual) or is it unethical etc. since I was late. I first count out the day's cash to verify that I have the proper amount in the cash drawer, then turn on the lights and phones, switch on the air conditioner, and flip over the Closed sign to display Open. I boot the computers and fire up the retail software, and check that the printer is loaded with paper. This is followed by a quick tour of the shop to check that all the shelves are properly stocked with motor oil, bungee cords, and shiny chrome accessories for the motorcycles, boats, ATVs, and watercraft that I can't afford. By this time someone with a key usually wanders by to unlock the front door. Sometimes the phone rings. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

Coffee!! ;-) My workmates and I tend to get pretty busy throughout the day, so we will tend to just talk with eachother informally over coffee for that first 15 minutes or so. It's a nice way to start the day.

(On Mondays, turn on the whole machine - I usually turn it off on the weekends but leave it running every other day.) :bob: Check e-mail, delete all spam. Make sure nobody has called an imminent morning meeting. :bob: Listen to any voice mails I may have received. :bob: Go to CodeProject, check the Lounge and, if applicable, the weekly poll and comments. :bob: Take my empty water cup to the water fountain, fill up. :bob: Scour the halls for doughnuts or other goodies anyone might have brought. Whether its just me, but this usually takes at least 45minutes.

- Open Outlook and check my emails/spam.
- Open IE/CrazyBrowser and bring up CodeProject, Dilbert.com

I read whatever mail I get overnight, then read the Lounge, then check the SoapBox, and sometimes, to get the brain started, I do the technical forums as well. Then I move onto a local forum, and then I begin work. I do this regardless of what time I arrive at work, be it 06:30 or 10:30.
