IE Security settings...

Ok, I've had enough. What is a good combination of security settings for IE6 that will prevent most (if not all) variants of Hijackware whilst minimizing the hassle of "prompting" every page I visit? (btw, no, it's not pron that's hitting me...:)) as an addendum, is there a site which will "test" your settings to see how many holes there are?

It's called "Mozilla Firefox". ;P Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:

Set the Internet and Restricted Sites zones to High. This pretty much disables everything. You can always click the "Custom..." button and double check. Add sites whos rich content (i.e., Java applets, Flash ActiveX control, etc.) to the Trust Sites. This part of what the Enhanced Internet Security (or whatever) does for Internet Explorer on Windows Server 2003. Basically, you have to add any site you want to browse these days added to the Trusted Sites zone. It can get very annoying at times because it always prompts. Using a High security setting like I mentioned above just disables such content and shouldn't prompt you.

Never a setting for me, I always have things such as active-x as prompt. It is pain to answer, but at least I have the choice. There are some sites you just do not get anywhere with it. It would be great though if there was an addon for IE which would display a tag where those offending things are that you could click on to have execute when you want. That would eliminate the prompting but at the same time you would see that they exist and can execute them as needed. Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com
