This is not a plea for help. I know where the proper forums are. A coworker was browsing some MSI installation logs for our products and he found this gem:

    MSI (s) (50:9C): Creating MSIHANDLE (1) of type 790542 for thread 3996
MSI (s) (50:98): Invoking remote custom action. DLL:
    :\WINDOWS\Installer\MSIA.tmp, Entrypoint: CheckFX
MSI (s) (50:EC): Generating random cookie.
MSI (s) (50:EC): Created Custom Action Server with PID 2452 (0x994).
    MSI (s) (50:60): Running as a service.
**MSI (s) (50:60): Hello, I'm your 32bit Impersonated custom action server.**
    MSI (s) (50!B8): Creating MSIHANDLE (2) of type 790531 for thread 2232
    MSI (s) (50!B8): Closing MSIHANDLE (2) of type 790531 for thread 2232
    MSI (s) (50!B8): Creating MSIHANDLE (3) of type 790531 for thread 2232
    MSI (s) (50!B8): Closing MSIHANDLE (3) of type 790531 for thread 2232

Damn, who writes these messages? Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:

How polite of the server to introduce itself on start-up. :-D

Strange. I've debugged several MSI packages (both ours and others) looking through the logs and never noticed. Of course, I usually skip toward the end where I know the problem will be. I'll have to take a look at the beginning sometime and see if I've got that, too. :)

I talked to the guy who found this and he said me that it was while installing the Visual J# Redistributable. Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:
