Just wondering about the world-wide price of gas and oil. So here is the question: How much is gas (per liter or gallon) in your part of the world? Here in Germany, we have to pay round about 1.20€ (~1.40$) per liter (~5.40$ per gallon) I remember an american fellow who told me this would force civil war when gas-prices in the US would rise to 5$ and higher... X| It's not fun these days needing a car to get to work... :((

Here in Brazil we pay ~US$ 0.68 per liter (or ~US$2.46 per gallon). But the gas here is really a mix with 25% of ethanol. We have the alternative of pure ethanol and hybrid cars - "flex fuel" - which can run on any mix of gas and ethanol. Ethanol price varies a lot, as it's extracted from sugar cane, but never raises more than ~US$ 0.18 per liter (or ~US$0.82 per gallon). Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:

Here in Trivandrum, India it's Rs 38/litre for regular quality petrol - that's about USD 3.2 per Gallon - about twice of what most americans would be paying :-) Nish p.s. And people have the nerve to say cost of living is cheaper here. Cheaper my left foot!

E1.30 per litre (approx $5.93 per gallon). My car needs 80 litres. That means every time I refuel I need to pay about E104/$125. Ouch.

Here in Trivandrum, India it's Rs 38/litre for regular quality petrol - that's about USD 3.2 per Gallon - about twice of what most americans would be paying :-) Nish p.s. And people have the nerve to say cost of living is cheaper here. Cheaper my left foot!

It's not twice any more. I'm paying about $2.20 per gallon right now, but last October I was paying $1.39. :omg: Regards, Brigg Thorp Senior Software Engineer Timex Corporation

All the cars made here can run on this mix from factory. There are some small tuning made on the imported cars (like mine, a Citröen XSara), but even them come modified to the stores - you need to change some rubber pieces, as the ethanol melts them, but nothing more. The limit seems to be 32%, at this point the compression rate changes. The only change you see is a small raise in spending - ethanol makes your car get a few more HP, but you spend 10% more in liters. Even with the reduced efficiency, it’s worth, as it’s usually 70% less the price. Before electronic injection, ethanol cars were a huge problem, because the carburetor didn’t work right on winter, and the car wouldn’t start. I recall using a hair drier for 10 minutes on the engine/carburetor to start my car on the coldest days. Today, the electronic injection is smart and you can start the car instantly no matter how cold it is. Every time the oil international prices rise, the government raises the ethanol proportion. When the oil prices go down, they reduce the mix again. Due to technical difficulties my previous signature, "I see dumb people" will be off until further notice. Too many people were thinking I was talking about them... :sigh:
