Just wondering about the world-wide price of gas and oil. So here is the question: How much is gas (per liter or gallon) in your part of the world? Here in Germany, we have to pay round about 1.20€ (~1.40$) per liter (~5.40$ per gallon) I remember an american fellow who told me this would force civil war when gas-prices in the US would rise to 5$ and higher... X| It's not fun these days needing a car to get to work... :((

Where I live in the US, we have to pay about US$2.00 per gallon. I feel so lucky. Aaron Eldreth TheCollective4.com My Articles While much is too strange to be believed, Nothing is too strange to have happened. - T. Hardy

I can't complain too much, even though the cost of gasoline has risen dramatically in recent weeks to around $2.10 / US gal. When I started working it was $0.27/gal, so at first glance it appears to be a huge increase of 678%! But in real terms, it isn't much. To put it in perspective, back then I made $1.35 an hour, so it took (.27 / 1.35)* 60 = 12 minutes to earn the price of a gallon of gas. Today it takes (2.10 / 8.00) * 60 = 16 minutes to buy that gallon; a 33% increase over a span of 35 years. I don't consider that much of a hardship. If I had a real job that paid a decent wage, I'd consider it a bargain!:-D Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

There'd be alot of bitching, but no civil war. With gas prices at $5/gal, how would they move their militia around? ;) It's all fine by me. It'll put a short term (~5 years) hit on the auto industry worldwide, seeing as how so much money is made in America by that industry, but people will adapt by selling their guzzlers or making smarter choices about driving (e.g. carpooling, public transport, etc...). I'm holding out hope that increased gas prices will force my city (Atlanta, Georgia) to build an actual subway system that I could use in lieu of a car  -- Russell Morris "So, broccoli, mother says you're good for me... but I'm afraid I'm no good for you!" - Stewy

Here in Trivandrum, India it's Rs 38/litre for regular quality petrol - that's about USD 3.2 per Gallon - about twice of what most americans would be paying :-) Nish p.s. And people have the nerve to say cost of living is cheaper here. Cheaper my left foot!

Here in the Southeast USA, gas is running around $2.04 / gallon for the 89 octane plus I use. If it gets much higher the large truck toting rednecks (some of them with tires larger than my car) will probably attempt to secede from the union again. Filled up my car on Friday for $1.97 a gallon here in Utah. I calculated my Civic got 34 mpg during the last tank full. (In 1986, I remember paying $1.29 a gallon in Burbank during a spike in prices, which would be $2.19 or so adjusted for inflation. As a percentage of income the price difference is bigger since I was finishing college and my wife and I were living at the poverty line.)
