Here is a mail that a friend of mine in madras mailed to our class mailing list about my encounters in madras. It's kinda exagerrated but mostly true :-( I got conned by the rickshaw drivers, by the footman, by everybody :-( ----- Original Message ----- From: "R G" Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2001 10:43 PM Subject: [s8r99] nishi's day out > "The Puzzle of the Buffoon" has been solved, thanx to > nishi...:)...wuz kinda nice to bunk office n gossip > over beer for the whole of the axnoon :))... > > btw...in jus over the course of an axnoon, nishi has > managed to become the darling of the masses here in > chennai by doling out dough in hundreds to anyone that > caught his fancy...he started off by chucking auto > drivers 100 bucks each to keep taking u turns in front > of the us consulate...it wuz like the very act of > stepping on american (embassy) soil wuz enuf to make > him tipsy...i saw him tip a parking attendant...YES, A > PARKING ATTENDANT...100 bucks jus like that...n all > the guy had ever done was stand there...v had to > practically hold him down from tipping the waiters and > porters in multiples of hundreds...v as in suraj n > i...he kept pestering us in the office n literally > dragged suraj n me away fm our desks for beer in the > middle of the day...when did he become such a > boozard...then he tried to tip the waiter 500 > bucks...too much...jus too much... > > v finally managed to shove him onto that train at 7 in > spite of his best efforts to jump out as it started to > move...he was last heard saying that gals allow > married men "certain" liberties n i rather fancy that > he wuz planning to try out THAT particular theory with > the gal in the next seat... > Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

I mean, I know if was ridiculed, I would not post it up so that everyone could read about my mistakes... Don't get offended, but why did you tip so heavily??? Did you just not know? Or were you trying to show people that you're not cheap? Anyway, I hope that you learned some stuff from your experience at Madras... Melissa

Hello Melissa Well, obviously my friend exagerrated slightly. But I didnt feel embarassed about it. I thought it'd also serve as a warning to other people who visit Madras (also known as Chennai). As for tipping heavily, that's what happens when you get drunk :-) Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain
