For some reason, my wireless PC card doesn't quite give me the quoted 10mbps speed on the box. I've tried connecting to my access point via cable and I get full speed to my ISP, yet via the wireless link I usually average at 20kbps max. I can't find anything obvious in the access point's config settings nor the wireless card's settings. The signal strength is constantly excellent. Any ideas guys?

With Wireless you typically get around < 5M throughput for 10M, worse again if WEP is enabled. A good site for wi-fi is http://www.practicallynetworked.com[^] Also of interest: http://www.nwfusion.com/net.worker/columnists/2003/0210gaskin.html[^] http://www.netiq.com[^] used to have a good free end-to-end LAN throughput test progy but it seems to have dissapeared.:( Neville Franks, Author of ED for Windows www.getsoft.com and coming soon: Surfulater www.surfulater.com

I have both an internal wireless adapter (in my Dell Lat D600) and a PC card wireless adapter (I had for my old laptop). The internal one is significantly slower. I haven't measured it, but I have compared them by copying the same file from the network using each one. The signal strength on both is the same, so that's not it. It seems different enough that I think there's something wrong with my internal (I hope). There are others at my work with the same laptop, so I'm going to do the test with another computer someday... Josh
