Curious about www2 ?

The "www" really doesn't mean anything of itself - it's just a server or DNS name. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if google has some sort of load balancing and it names its servers "www", "www2", etc. "Fish and guests stink in three days." - Benjamin Franlkin
Google updates page ranking once a month. Preview of the new data index is available at www2.google.com & www3.google.com several days before it is updated at www.google.com. The time between the start and the end of an update is also known as Google-Dance. There are several tools available to compare the Google-Dance. What does it mean ? I've noticed that www2.google.com works just the same as www.google.com www2.espn.com and most other sites don't work. Even ww.google.com[^] works for me, but it shows a different version of the website. :) I once accidentally typed the address with only two "w" characters and was surprised that it works. I think I will do this for our own website too. :) Rado

Sometimes I think the people hosting my blog should allow this. As much as I like having my identity at the beginning, "http://forbesweb.typepad.com" seems to render some people helpless :sigh:

Yes, but there are still sites that can only be accessed with the "www" in front, I don't know if it's because the webmasters are too lazy or what's the real reason. "http://" is not required by the browsers and is usually added automatically, but I guess that you have to use it if the port is different from the default http port 80. Rado

That's funny, it shows the same version of the page for me too now. In the morning, www.google.com was showing the Slovak version (translated to Slovak) of the Google website, and ww.google.com was showing a different (I guess older) version of the Slovak Google site. Rado
