I've discovered that being a political moderate sucks... now I get calls and mail from both Democrats and Republicans. :(( Anyone had any success getting off these mailing lists? Yeah, I doubt it too, so I guess this is more of just a rant. I'd hate to live in a country with more than 2 major political parties. :~ "Fish and guests stink in three days." - Benjamin Franlkin

I got a piece of mail the other day (under voter registration I put not affiliated [if it was a true multiparty system and a democracy why the f*k do they even ask that]) and i got a mid-sized envolope that had a color flag the words "Bush" "Photo" and "Enclosed" that was enough my brain identified it as spam and teh removal process begain, thus promptly destorying the envolope and contents beyond recognition. -Steven Hicks

Yeh, the ballot paper was most amusing - I had to fold it again and again and again before the bloody thing would fit in the ballot box! I do hope George Galloway's "Respect" party loses its deposit. I think the guys a total wanker. Iraq war aside, his new party is a bunch of Socialists who want to re-nationalise all the utilities and "put the brakes on big business". Fuck off back to your enormous Portuguese villa George, you fucking tosspot. I think UKIP will do very well when the final count is in - nicely splitting the Tory vote (which is good news as far as I am concerned). A lot of bullshit about Europe has been spouted by the right-wing press, and people lap it up and hence are voting to get the UK out of Europe altogether. What madness. I'm not the EUs biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but even I can see the writing is on the wall and I'd rather we were on the inside with some influence than outside with no fucking say whatsoever. I wonder if these same people would like the UK to become the next state of the US? Perhaps they are harbouring dewy-eyed feelings about how we can stand on our own two feet like we did back in the Colonial days when we ruled half the world! If we leave Europe then one day we'll be crawling back to them or to Washington with our cap in hands, begging to be saved. Also, according to Newsnight, Blair still has a higher approval/trustworthy rating than Michael Howard - even with so many against the Iraq war, it's nice to know that people can see what an odious toad the Tory leader is! How I grinned when I saw that. Blair must have wet his pants laughing so hard the day Howard become Tory leader - "something of the night" indeed. The guys a fucking vampire.

Fine, if people have the facts, but they don't Karl - they get fed a load of shit by certain sections of the media. If we leave the EU based on some of the xenophobic crap they print in The Sun, Daily Mail, etc. then that would be very sad for all.

I don't believe xenophobic crap is limited to UK only, far from that: for example, look at the results of the "Vlaams Blok" in Belgium or the infamous "Front National" in France. The media are propagating fear worldwide, people get terrified of everything, leading to mistrust, closed minds, rejection of the difference... and it's just a beginning :|

I think it's different for the LibDems - I can't see many people voting for a single issue party like UKIP when the next general election comes around. I still think they need a "None of the above" box on the ballot paper + mandatory voting. Then we'd see just how many people are disenchanted with party politics.
