Worked OK for me.... Was talking to a friend a while back re: another virus on phones. He told me that a txt msg (sorry - seemed appropriate :-) )arrived telling him that he had won £X,000 and to phone a premium number, but on no circumstances was he to delete the txt meessage - this was emblasoned all over the text - "Do NOT delete this message". Naturally, assuming it was a spam text, he deleted it, et voila - all his contacts, appointments and photos gone.... Now at first I didn't take much notice of this, since he's a gentleman "of a certain age" and assumed that he was just being a little inept, but apparently, several other more techno-savvy people have also experienced it... Anyone else heard of this? "Now I guess I'll sit back and watch people misinterpret what I just said......" Christian Graus At The Soapbox

Up to last week I was answering the questions regarding Cell phone virus as Hoax. But with the introduction of this worm I have to rethink my answers again. This worm is a proof of concept, however, I do expect it to trigger a wide copy cats as soon as this code goes out. With The BlueTooth for the Symbian OS available. It only time until this becomes reality. It is Illogical to define an inventor by his invention

Figured it was only a matter of time. :( Now, if a cell phone worm is invented that can connect to a GPS system and will turn your phone off if you happen to be in certain areas, such as movie theatres or restaurants, now that might actually be useful. :-D "Fish and guests stink in three days." - Benjamin Franlkin

Ok here is the artikle: EPOC.Cabir is a proof-of-concept worm that replicates on Nokia Series 60 phones. It repeatedly sends itself to the first Bluetooth-enabled device that it can find, regardless of the type of device (ie even a Bluetooth-enabled printer will be attacked if it is within range). The worm spreads as a .SIS file, which is automatically installed into the "APPS" directory when the receiver accepts the transmission. Upon execution, it will display a message then copy itself to a directory that is not visible by default. The worm runs from this directory whenever the phone is rebooted, so it continues to work even if the files are deleted from the APPS directory. Once the worm is running, it will constantly search for Bluetooth-enabled devices, and send itself to the first device that it finds. There is no payload, apart from the vastly shortened battery life caused by the constant scanning for Bluetooth-enabled devices. Type: Worm Infection Length: 15104 (caribe.sis), 11944 (caribe.app), 11498 (flo.mdl), 44 (caribe.rsc) Systems Affected: EPOC bb |~ bb

You might add gym to that list. Nothing ticks me off more than people who bring their cellphones to the gym and stop a game (leaving three people standing around doing nothing .. I'm talking about badminton) while they take their "important" phone call. This could be really dangerous!!!! It could make the phone useless!!!! I once tested a programm on a HP48 calculator, which turned it off as soon as it was turned on. As there was no time to disable the programm, the only solution was to hard-reset the calculator to erase all memory. If a virus is designed to work on the same way it could be really harmfull. Do these phones have a hard-reset button to erase memory? I don't think taking off batteries would work, as they use to have an internal battery to save data.

There's a guy here at work who will jump off the treadmill, take a call, and then jump back on. I've even see him slow down (he's pretty fast), grab his phone, and read/send text messages. Sheesh. The funny thing is, this guy isn't even that high on the food chain.

I've seen many people in India zooming along at around 60 mph on motorcycles on crowded roads while the type text messages in one hand and steer with another. Worse, if they don't have earphones they'll tilt their heads at an impossible angle to hold the phone against their shoulder and drive like that (still at same speed) "I believe I referred to her personality as a potential science exhibit." - Elaine, about Ellen, in "The Dog"
