What they should do is make the shots like hockey penalty shots. The shooter starts at mid-field and has X seconds to get the ball into the goal. (Well, maybe not mid-field, that would be too far for soccer, but you get the idea.) Here in the US, MLS used this system for the first couple of years and I personally liked it, as it involves 10000% more skill than simple penalty shots. --Mike-- Personal stuff:: Ericahist | Homepage Shareware stuff:: 1ClickPicGrabber | RightClick-Encrypt CP stuff:: CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ ---- "die" ahhhh! Are you sure. If the goalkeeper comes out its pretty easy to lob him. I think this method will put the goalkeeper at even more of a disadvantage. It'd be really easy to round him or chip him, I'm curious to know how it worked in MLS and how often keepers managed to save. Shoot-outs is a lotery , fortunately for me Portugal won !!! The game was great, extremely exciting, and none of the teams deserved to be sent off. The England team dignified an astonishing victory from Portugal. As I'm typing this,in all my 28 years in Portugal I'm amazed because excluding the victory over Spain, I never saw this mass histeria ... of course this is worse!!! This incredible number of flags on the people's houses and this love for the portugal flag and this incredible no stopping noise and car traffic beats the shit out of me ... it's a extraordinary social phenomenon  An honest farewell for a great english football team with fantastic players that deserved to be on the final  Cheers,Joao Vaz Three primary LAN architectures for Network Engineers, under the sky, Seven OSI layers for the Open System Architects, in their halls of stone, Nine N-xDU operations* for mortal Developers, doomed to die, One protocol suite for the Dark Sysadmin, in his dark server room, In the land of mordor.net, where the shadowed fibers lie

Yoo hoo I supported Portugal this match once Italy was knocked out as I'd promised. What an awesome game. And Rui Costa with that super goal. I seriously thought it was over at that point. I think England have a lot to take away especially the fact that their team's core is still pretty young. It did not need to go to penalties. England scored a perfectly good goal about 5 minutes before the end of normal time, which would have won it for them. However, the Swiss referee, who was a long way from the action, decided there had been some pushing and so disallowed the goal. He didn't ask his assistant, who appeared to think it was OK. There will be accusations of bias in favour of the home team. It's about time "video replay evidence" was used in football matches. Manchester United were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League this season due to a disallowed but perfectly good goal. :(( Now, all we have to hope for is that France will NOT win....

i guess the coach is to be blamed. england started playing complete defence after a goal in 3rd minute. Literally no offensive play (68% possesion for portugal) after that. How on earth he thought they can defend one goal for 90 minutes. England did the same mistake with brazil in worldcup and they did it again yesterday. net result..same... still an amazing match. ps: Cole was too good for Ronaldo to handle.

England just weren't good enough. It is sad to see us go out on penalties again... but I knew we would, so the disappointment isn't as bad as in '90 and 96 or even 98. Still it is nice to know that English referees aren't the worst in Europe. Michael CP Blog [^]

Waoh, what a game! So sad England isn't able to keep the score, hum? Of course, some english fans will claim they were robbed, because of the goal by Campbell disallowed by the referee, but 999 times out of 1,000, when there's a potential assault on the goal keeper, the referee gives a free-kick. The picture displayed by the Sun (http://images.thesun.co.uk/picture/0,,2004290824,00.jpg[^]) shows well Terry's arm pushing the goal-keeper, so IMHO referee's decision was the good one.

Your're right Portugal had the initiative and therefore deserved to win. Perhaps England where a little bit tired but I believe it was a matter of will, since Portugals will was stronger they didn't feel tired. As for the valid goal I think my compatriots are deluding themselves, 'goals' like that are never given not even in the premiership. You simply can't challenge the goalkeeper like that in the modern game, rightly or wrongly. I think Portugal can win and hope you do, you've got a great squad of players and a great spirit. Funny you should say that. I had the exact idea the other night at the sports bar. Only one person except me thought it was a good idea. :sigh: -- Ich bin Joachim von Hassel, und ich bin Pilot der Bundeswehr. Welle: Erdball - F104-G Starfighter
