My dad somehow got this scumware installed on his computer. I have just spent a couple hours trying to rid his laptop of it to no avail. I am very hesitant to do a reinstall because 1. its not my computer, and 2. he has alot of software from work that I don't know much about. Does anyone know how to remove this crap? [EDIT] Got it fixed, thank you all for your help![/EDIT] Matt Newman

Have you search the registry, files, and folders for "Home Search Assistant" and variations of it? If you know the exact date this started happening, you can search for files that were created on and since that date.

            It might be a virus. You should try a virus scan. /\ |_ E X E GG

The first thing I thought after reading the subject was of an assistant that searches your home for lost items (keys, wallet, cds, kids, pets, etc...) Alas, I was disappointed :sigh:

I saw Ad-aware Cloak 1.0 on the site you linked to. It hides ad-aware windows from spyware that searches for the ad-aware window and shuts it down. This stuff is way beyond insane. I can't imagine how normal users even use their systems once this stuff gets on there. :omg:

no problem usually all i do is google the exe, i dont even use and firewall, no anti virus, just mozilla lol. Its not as easy or polished as IE, but i havent had to dig into my registry for weeks now. I read about that spyware you had, sounds like some nasty stuff glad to help you get rid of it.
