I can't believe this happened

Tonight, my girlfriend and I went to Applebee's[^] for dinner. We noticed that they have removed many of their handicap parking spaces with new "pick-up" spaces. Simply put, you can call up and place an order, when you come to pick up your order, you park your car in the new "pick-up" space (which they have 3 of) and an employee brings your food out to you. They will also process your credit card and bring the slip out for you to sign. We saw two cars use this "service" while eating. While I think many people will use this as yet another lazy excuse to stay in their car to get dinner, it can be very helpful for those that can not easily get in and out of cars such as the elderly. My problem was that when a handicapped elderly couple pulled up and parked in one of the new "pick-up" spaces which used to be the handicap spaces, some Applebee's employee made them walk back out and move their car to the specified handicap spots. Applebee's is catering to the lazy over the handicap. That really pissed me off. :mad:

My Blog | My ArticlesI don't care for Applebee's anyway. As I'm sure you remember, I've gotten meat grossly underdone on several occasions. When I ask for well-done (yes, I'm like 'em dead) and it's still bleeding without even cutting into it, it's underdone. When I order a steak dinner that comes with two pieces of steak (like a butterfly chop) and one is underdone (see example above) and one still frozen in the middle, they're underdone. When I order a 1/4 lb. hamburger and it's still bleeding throughout, it's underdone. USDA has guidelines that even mom & pop eateries get close enough to, based on temperature. A rare steak - especially one that's still frozen - will most definitely measure differently than a well-done steak. There's simply no excuse and if I have to go to Applebee's for some luncheon then I'll stick to what few dark beers they have left and some fries - at least those are good cold. Applebee's is a joke anyway, and you just present even more proof.

I've let them know about their seeming lack of thermometers and nothing has changed. What's the point so long as they have enough satisfied customers to stay in business? Business 2.0 stops caring about the customer and cares about the investor and profit margins (ultimately to the same goal). So the power is in the people. When they stop being profitable because of a lack of enough customers due to problems raised like this, then they'll listen. PS: I have received vouchers on two separate occassions; once from the local manager and once from the regional manager (over a 2 month period). After using the voucher from the regional manager, we were met with nothing more than resentment, sneers, and even the manager talking under his breath to other employees as they pointed at us as we were leaving.

I don't care for Applebee's anyway. As I'm sure you remember, I've gotten meat grossly underdone on several occasions. When I ask for well-done (yes, I'm like 'em dead) and it's still bleeding without even cutting into it, it's underdone. By "removed many spots", how many did they actually remove? Typically, you can park three cars in the room required by two handicapped spots. Are uou sure they didn't just re-locate them? In most states, a certain percentage of spots must be reserved for handicapped parking (or some other criteria is used to determine the number of spots that must exist). Check state and local laws and ensure that the store is in compliance. If they are, you have no room to bitch. Did they actually move the handicapped spots further away from the store? Did they re-paint the spot so that it's no longer blue in color? Pickup spots shouldn't be for people to stay in their cars (IMHO). While they do still have handicap spots, they were moved to the other side of the building. The spots were never blue in color, but they did have those metal signs in front of them before.
