I keep my religion to myself, but I'm not offended by someone who is religious and wants to try to tell me about it. I see it as no different from you expressing your offense at it. What is sad is that because someone expresses their belief in God (or Allah, or Budda , or little green men) someone would have to get all PO'ed about it. I wish I had the free time and energy that you do..... Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

;P Funny, but show me a post that ends with "Allah is great, here is a website to go see about it" or "Buddha is great, here is a website you should go to" Why does a religion need to be peddled like dishwasher detergent or mutual funds anyway?

Hah ha! Good one! That's along the lines of an aunt of mine who when I was a teenager went through my records telling me which bands were working for Satan. (and no, that's not why I have the attitude towards unwanted proselytization that I have now) I just think that it's one small step on the way to actively dividing people when we really need to be uniting people right now. It's along the lines of "your either with us or your against us". I would love to debate these things with people in a rational discussion, but putting it in a tagline is just about as tacky and annoying as putting a bobblehead Jesus on your dashboard isn't it? Markus Naslund is a *very* devout christian, however I have never heard him once say "I thank god for giving us this win today" as you are often likely to hear. I think he is an admirable example for other christians and does more for the cause than a million athletes constantly bringing it up in every interview etc. It's a similar thing.

It's along the lines of "your either with us or your against us". There are many sorts of small steps that are taken to divide, whether because of ignorance or malicous intent. As you can do little to restrain others in this regard, it is best to watch your own actions. The steps you take can divide or unite as much as those of anyone else...

What's with all these people cheering for god in the tag lines of their posts these days here? Does anyone else find that incredibly annoying or is it just me? Shouldn't that be something personal like having dandruff or do you get brownie points from god the more you shake your personal belief "fist" in everyone else's faces? Most importantly: Can anyone suggest something I can put in my tagline that would really offend the god-squad while still conforming to cp posting rules?

Whats wrong in expressing what you believe in? By saying that you might as well as be offended about what you wrote cause thats what you believe/think at this moment. Just to make you happy here: "For God so loved the world he gave his only son, for who so ever believeth in him shall not parish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 -Steven Hicks

John Cardinal wrote: Does anyone else find that incredibly annoying or is it just me? Almost as annoying as people who put pithy quotes by long dead Americans in their sigs. Or all those damn Democrats and Republicans who put political quotes in theirs - I mean - don't they know that there are people on this board who don't even vote in their own countries elections (if they have 'em). Oh and then there are the quotes of other CPians - don't get me start... - hold on - those are OK! :-D There are real reasons in this world for taking offense - proselytizing sigs aren't one of them.:(( Dave

Well then my sig must be very offensive too. I dare show my support for the canucks. It must offend those who support other teams. I can't even imagine how much it offends people who are not hockey fans:omg:. I better change my sig to a more politically correct one that will not offend.

We have a few of those in Bournemouth. They have microphones and amps. They stop people in the street. Fortunately I'm a Catholic, and they hate those more than atheists. Do they honestly think they're going to convert people that way?

I saw some of them in Bristol, and I'm sorry but they really were self righteous b"£$%ards  I'm not a religious person but there are many christians I respect for ther beliefs. These con artists are not amongst them. Why to I say this ? Because they are about dogma not faith and bully people into doing as they are told. The tigress is here :-D

John Cardinal wrote: What's with all these people cheering for god in the tag lines of their posts these days here? Does it really matter? It's their sig (and so their "territory", so to speak) and if quoting a bit of scripture or something helps them think they've done their bit for the cause, it means they're less likely to go and really bother people with street preaching and door knocking :-D. My sig sort of expresses my own religious beliefs too (or more accurately, the lack of :-)). So if it really bothers you, find a good quote yourself. You can have this one I considered using myself, if you like: "I thought physics could be done to the glory of God, till I saw there wasn't any God at all and that physics was more interesting anyway. The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that's all." - from The Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman. Change "physics" to "computing" and you get a very simplified version of my own religious experiences

My sister was telling me how there are so many people in Australia that stand on the streets asking if people believe in God, and would they like to hear about God, and wouldn't it be great if they let God into their lives. That would irritate me no end.

I'd regard it as a childish ploy to offend people, and a sign of immaturity/insecurity.
