Mike Gaskey wrote: for all you know it was the spook's husband who talked to Novack well that's the stupidest thing i've heard all day. if Wilson himself outed his wife, that would be a phenomenal scoop and it would've been conveniently leaked by one of the 5 or so reporters who were contacted to one of their colleagues. and, of course Bush, Cheney, Libby and the rest of the criminals wouldn't be speaking to the Grand Jury. but beside all that Novak himself said the information came from a "senior administration official". and that means someone in W or Cheney's staff, or a high-level cabinet member. Celebs Turn Out for Kerry-Edwards[^] Whoopi Goldberg delivered an X-rated rant full of sexual innuendoes against President Bush last night at a Radio City gala that raised $7.5 million for the newly minted Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards. Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia, and boasted that she'd refused to let Team Kerry clear her material. ... Kerry could be seen laughing uproariously during part of Goldberg's tirade — and neither he nor Edwards voiced a single objection to its tone when they spoke to the crowd. They hailed the fund-raiser as a great event. Edwards said it was "a great honor" to be there and insisted, "This campaign will be a celebration of real American values." Kerry thanked all the performers for "an extraordinary evening," hailed the "great producers" — Harvey Weinstein of Miramax and Jann Wenner - and said "every performer tonight ... conveyed to you the heart and soul of our country." Kinda makes me understand how despite GW's record, Kerry still can't get a decent lead in the polls. Where did we go wrong that spam-sucking trailer trash is the best we can put in the whitehouse? Since you raise the issue of Kennedy, it is worth making the obvious point that since his time the Democratic Party, in common with virtually every other political party in the Western world (and most political parties outside the Western world) has moved to the left on social (read sexual) issues and to the right on economic issues. Its all a matter of perspective I suppose, but I disagree completely. The "left" has not yet finished its flirtation with Marxism and is still desperately trying to figure out some way to make it appear to work. In the US, the current tactic is to give Marxism a Jeffersonian face. Their power base remains dependency of large masses of people upon political systems. They cuold no more turn away from that basic political paradigm than a weed could turn away from the dirt it's growing out of. They might pay lip service to principles that appear market oriented on the surface, but it is only to stall for time until they figure out some way to get it all under the control of government. And, frankly, traditional American culture is in its entirity a repudiation of European culture. We are, and I hope always remain, the anti-Europe. (Which is precisely the reason the world at large has such a vested interest in undermining American conservatism - it is all that stands in the way of a complete reconquest of the world by Europe) "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." Relax Paul, nobody is concerned with sex or even joking about it. If Whoopi Goldberg wants to hold a news conference or a show and insult Bush (or anyone else) in the most explicit method she can muster it is her business and I frankly wouldn't care. This was different. It was an official fundraiser for the Democratic party. Most Americans expect a certain amount of decorum from their leaders. In this case, they didn't get it from Kerry, Edwards or the Democrats in general. Paul Watson wrote: You lord having left Europe behind with American progress but emotionally and socially I think you have regresed. I don't remember lording about American progress so I will respectfully disagree. Why is it so difficult for you to understand that many Americans were raised to have different ideals and scruples from you. Not better, but not worse - just different. And if you can't accept that, I'd suggest you open your mind. Can you imagine a scenario within German politics where a PM running for re-election would be publicly insulted in such a graphic manner at an official gathering of an opposing party? "President Bush has promised he's going to establish elections in Iraq, he's going to rebuild the infrastructure and he's going to create jobs. And he said if it works there, he'll try it here." David Letterman

No, because german elections are boring stupid, not puiblicity shows anyway (and I don't know which is better). I've seen democrats stuff about republicans, I've seen rep staff about dems, the only difference here that in my youth this would have been a non-no because a) it`s a public event, and b) a person like Whoopie would be expected to be a better role model. But that's been a few years...

Can you tell me exactly how being more explicit about sex is considered social progression? Jeremy Falcon

Stan Shannon wrote: And while the left is doing every thing it can to sereptiously displace Jeffersonianism with a thinly disguised form of Marxism, those same principles yet survive thanks to the right. i'll say it again: the general public doesn't know a fucking thing about Marx or his ideas, so there's no way they can be advocating anything in his name. if some of the goals of the left kinda look like things Marx would've likley mocked as unproductive half-steps towards what he considered ideal, and even then only if you squint really hard, that doesn't mean the left is actually advocating Marxism. just like it would be ridiculous to claim that the right is advocating some kind of Randian Libertarian Utopia simply because they half-heartedly talk about getting government out of people's lives. Relax Paul, nobody is concerned with sex or even joking about it.
