Well, he met Spasski in 1972 in a chess tournament during the cold war and won. After the match he dissappeared from the chess scene totally, refusing to play anymore. Then he resurfaced in 1992 (I think) to play the rematch against Spasski in Serbia! :wtf: I also read that he said that the 9/11 attacks was a good thing. I used the word weird instead of a more appropriate soapboax adjective. :) -- Ich bin Joachim von Hassel, und ich bin Pilot der Bundeswehr. Welle: Erdball - F104-G Starfighter

I was heavily into chess two decades ago, and remember reading a great book about the 1972 match. His games were brilliant. If you're really interested, here's a long article about Fischer that explains what's weird about him. Actually, weird is the wrong word. He's a fantastic player, but obviously has some severe problems. Bobby Fischer's Pathetic Endgame[^]

Really unfortunate. Things have moved along .. and now Yugoslavia doesn't exist. Hope they let him go. But I'm sure some idiot politician will try to gain political mileage out of this and hound him.
