My Article has now got a rating of 1.33!!!

Ok, so I wrote my article, did the screen shot, sorted out the code, and finally submitted it to CP. So far, so good. Then someone voted for it - and gave it 4 out of 5. I'm happy, obviously. ;) Then somene else votes for it, and gives it 1. It is now rated at 1.33. I'm not happy. :( In fact, I'm quite cross. :mad: I'm not expecting the article to get lots of votes, because it's probably not going to appeal to lots of people. So that vote is going to mean that my article ends up in purgatory. Now don't get me wrong, I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and maybe they really do think my article is rubbish, but they could at least have the decency to leave a message and say why they think it only deserves a 1. I think that what they have done is just plain spiteful and rude. I suspect that someone has written something similar to my article, and has taken offence to me writing about it too. If they are reading this, then all I can say is please leave a message on the article. Your vote of 1 may be justified - but I'd like to know why.

I took a quick look at your article[^], and I saw a couple of cosmetic issues: 1. Somewhere you've set a bold tag <b;> without closing it. The whole article displays in bold, which makes it seem like you're SHOUTING. There are people on CP who will knee-jerk react to that sort of thing, and give you a 1 right off the bat. 2. You've got some spelling errors, including in the header. In the quick skim I did, it looked like your technical information was pretty good, and certainly warrants higher than a 1 or 2 rating. Please note that I didn't rate the article; I'll look at it again after you update it.

I agree, the rating for my articles has fluctuated sometimes. Someone suggested that maybe it was a counter vote because I voted someone else a 1 (but I showed myself be explaining why I voted that way - maybe that it why the 1-voter doesn't show themselves). I have made some suggestions to the CP team on improving things to encourage (but not mandate) comments with votes. Hopefully when the site moves over to ASP.NET that feature will be available. We'll have to wait and see for the moment.

I would suggest this[^] Article ratings will smooth out over time. The only pain I see is if you get a bad vote early, it takes longer. (I know your pain, brother :cool: )

I'm not sure how you can get round that really. The only thing about ebay is you can easily see when people have retaliated against getting negative feedback themselves.

This is a real problem on codeproject. People who have articles competing for the top spot in a listing frequently vote down other peoples articles. It's a shame but it happens a lot. I took a look at your article and I think you did a fine job, thanks for contributing.
