To bite the bullet and start writing my own word processor. I have not found any word processor on the market which I am truly happy with. Wordperfect is great, but so it notepad. Just a little digression...

Hmm, you could write an app that uses a rich edit control (for basic editing), posts selected text to http://world.altavista.com/tr, and replaces the selected text with the result. /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com

Well done Ravi :-) To be honest that sounds like a (drum-roll) .NET application. You know where MS talks about net-services etc. I'm sure it can be done without .NET though. You should get a job at MS, to think up new .NET services Ravi, because I still haven't heard of many applications needing it. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

Colin, <sigh> I wish I could get back into Windows! :(( I was working in Java at my last job and began to hack web apps (little agents that would get interesting bits of info for you), in my spare time. Now I'm programming Tcl/TK :| at work and am once again forced to keep Windows for nights and weekends. I have to win the lottery so that I can concentrate on building high quality freeware and not have to worry about paying the bills! For some of my hacks, check out:

Here are some of my ideas for your word processor: 1. Allow for "developer languages" plugins which a: formats the code (like in VS etc.) b: does not flag code as misspelt. This has been done in Word but it is a mission to get working properly. 2. Keep it simple. Word does too much for you and ends up cocking things up, especially with formatting. 3. Let us view the "source" of the document to manipulate formatting directly. Like an HTML view on a WYSIWYG editor. 4. Mail merge? Who the hell needs mail merge! Get rid of or don't code the 99% of Word that 99% of people don't use. 5. Have a changeable setting for what happens to pasted text. I am getting gatvol (fed up) with having to always click that Smart Tag to tell Word I wan't my text pasted without original formatting. What file format are you going to use btw? Your own or an existing one? regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork?
