I have some trees that are growing wild. Do not know what kind they are. On little group is about 15'-20' tall. They have more of a fern looking leaf and do not completely fill out until July. About this time of year they get red cone like buds on them (which I think are the seeds). Here are two (not so good) pictures: http://rjsoft.com/tree1.jpg[^] http://rjsoft.com/tree2.jpg[^] Any ideas? Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

...And now, No. 1, The Larch. THE LARCH. :-D Seriously though the second tree looks like an Ash. Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.
          I'm coloured, yet clear.
          I'm fruity and sweet.
I'm jelly, what am I? Muse on it further, I shall return!

Thanks! That is what I found at the site PJ Arends suggested. They said it is native to the eastern States, however I am in Oregon :) Got quite a little forest of them out back. One of their traits is that they fill out in late spring or summer. One person mentioned they thought theirs had died as it was still just bare branches in late spring and then.. Poof.. Fill of leaves. That is what happened to us this year. I was about ready to cut them down thinking they died ;) Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

We have a lot of Sumac here in Michigan. That certainly looks like the stuff. Make sure you read up on the characteristics of this stuff. Some varieties, if not all, are poisonous like Poison Ivy and Poison Oak. One of the BIG NO NO's includes burning. I was taught very early that if you do need to burn the refuse to be certain to wear a mask and stay upwind. You do not want to get a "rash" in your bronchial tracts. According to this[^] link, it takes a mere 1 nanogram (billionth of a gram) of urushiol oil to cause rash. Success is measured by ones ability to mask complexity with simplicity.
