AOL (America Online) bought out MailBlocks the patent holder to the email challenge/response system. While server other companies have been using this technology, they also have been in legal battles with Mailblocks. Wonder if AOL will continue or just let others use the technology. Could not find anywhere that they listed the price paid. http://www.dmnews.com/cgi-bin/artprevbot.cgi?article_id=30028[^] Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

It'll be interesting to see how the challenge/response patent issue gets resolved. As you say there are several companies making use of the technology for spam filtering purposes and it does seem to be a good solution to the problem. Derek Lakin.

I can't believe a patent was issued on this unbelievably obvious technology in the first place.

Yeah, if every ISP had this as an option and most people would use it, the market for SPAM would die and opt in lists would soar! Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

I agree, I don't believe in patents of this type either. I think they should be removed. Patents are becoming a huge scourge on software development.
