Today is my last day in my current job. I'm leaving the corporate development world to go back to the small software company world. I start my new job Monday, which is also my birthday. So that's my birthday present this year.

Good luck and an early Happy Birthday. Nice present! :rose: I do not mind getting old. It beats all the other options that can think of.

Funny, I'm leaving my job this Friday (a day before my birthday) in a small software company (I've worked for two startups in the last 4 or 5 years) and moving to a big company (Microsoft). Congrats on your move and an early happy birthday!

Hey, congrats to you too! Microsoft, wow, obviously they had to make you one of those offers you just couldn't refuse, right? :-) What are you going to be doing there? Are you moving to Redmond? Good luck to you, you certainly deserve it. Regards, Alvaro

Thanks! I'll be a Software Design Engineer in the Developer Division Sustained Engineering team, which works with the .NET, Visual Studio, and Windows Scripting teams. It'll definitely be an exciting opportunity, one I've wanted since I was very young. My wife and I will move to the Seattle area. Not sure exactly where, yet, but we have some time to look around and decide.

I always liked working for smaller companies. Better to be a big fish in a small pond that a small fish in a big one ;) Seriously, there are down sides depending on the profitabilty of the smaller company and sometimes the benefits and chance for advancement as not as good, but it is great to work in a place where your work makes a huge difference and you can really feel like you are part of something. Our development team is pretty small, even at the big corp. And profitability is a plus side at the small place I am going. I'm in the healthcare field right now and the new Medicare reimbursement rates that kick in next year are going to seriously impact companies like the one I am leaving. Jeff Martin Triple20 Software
