It's Doom 3 I tell you!! We have to stop this before geeks the world over stop doing important stuff like breathing, bathing, posting in the louge, eating, etc. just so they can play Doom.

It gets pretty bad leading into the new year. According to EBGames.com there are 33 popular games that should be shipping (in the US) between now and Jan. 1st[^]. I happened to compile a list earlier this morning just to see how many there were. I started with 5 on my list (Doom 3, Fable, HL2, Paper Mario 2, and Metroid Prime 2), then hit EBGames and went through their pre-order list adding popular games (or ones I was interested in) until I got to the New Year. My checking account is going to feel some pain for the next 6-9 months (and then it starts all over again). James

Nick Seng wrote: Ahh...a purist then. You must hate the prequels. No. I enjoy them a lot. There are different from the original trilogy but still feel like Star Wars. Its the atmosphere that gives Dark Forces the edge against the sequels. In Dark Forces whilst creeping around the Executor, you always got the feeling that you might run into Darth Vader around the next corner. The JediKnight series suffers from the same problems associated with most of the Extended Universe stuff, the bad guys are light-weight. They aren't the evil empire. They are just your average bad-guy you'd find in most games. Academy is better than JKI and JKII because it takes you to a few more familiar locales. Tatooine and Hoth are very atmospheric and feel like a Star Wars game, whilst the other locations feel like they fell out of any other FPS. The Dark Forces encounter with Boba Fett was far superior to the one in Academy though. Whilst KOTR is very atmospheric, it suffers from the problems that most RPGS fall down upon. Too much happening and no real clear path. The quests are far too spread out, you move in and out of levels trying to remember which character you need to kill or talk to. Its hard tell which people are part of the story and which are just their to distract you to make the game feel longer. The combat also sucks compared to Academy and the rest. Michael CP Blog [^]

Oddly I don't have quite the qualm with game sequels as I do with movie sequels. I think it might be that at least with games you usually get something new gameplay wise that refreshes the game. When they don't add that extra element the gamers don't really like it...I'm thinking Tomb Raider here where they used the same engine for 13 sequels (exaggerated...I think). I think another reason we tend to tolerate it more is because of the interactive element which can make what would be a minor addition to a movie into a large addition for a game. To use the Jedi Knight series as an example: The addition of dual light sabers and double bladed sabers to Jedi Academy (or was it Outcast 2?) offered whole new playing/fighting styles. Adding the same thing to the movie made it a little more exciting but when you come out of it; it doesn't really have that much of an effect on the experience. James

You have to be really quick with the tickets. There are only a few left that are available to purchace on the day of the performance, and all the other tickets sold out months ago. If you want to chance it you can still come up (there would be more chance on a weekday than a weekend). The ticket office opens at 10 each morning. If you are planning to see the Tattoo next summer then February would be a good time to get tickets.

Thats right they did. Pity, because it was a good mod. The aliens made a rather satisfying SPLAT when killed. Which was especially good when using the shotgun :-D Michael CP Blog [^]

February huh? I'll have to try to remember that! Unfortunately we're going to see my brother in a few weeks, off to do some island hopping in Scandanavia (yes, this is apparently quite possible off the west coast of Sweden/ east coast of Denmark), so I doubt Brend will agree to also going to the Tattoo this year :sigh:

One of the airports they use in Scandanavia isn't even in the same country as the city it is supposed to serve. You'll be able to take some fantastic pictures.
