I don't know if it's the best, but I like Borland JBuilder. Several of my colleagues use Eclipse and say that is also good.

Thanks Niall. I had used an older (all windows) version of JBuilder before and quite liked it. But when they switched to the Java version, it became a pain :) I will give it a go again. Thanks for the recommendations. Best always, Pankaj /** I'm the one who's gonna have to die When it's time for me to die So let me live my life The way I want to - Jimi Hendrix */

JBuilderX is excellent but make sure you have a lot of memory.

I've always preferred Kawa. It's simple and fast, and doesn't pollute the project with weird environment files. "After all it's just text at the end of the day. - Colin Davies "For example, when a VB programmer comes to my house, they may say 'does your pool need cleaning, sir ?' " - Christian Graus

IntelliJ rocks. Fast, affordable, light, supports refactoring, and has a very, very smart editor. OTOH some people seem to love Eclipse, if you have a very powerful machine, it can be a good alternative. Yes, even I am blogging now!

JCreator[^] and Netbeans[^] are both good IDEs. Signature under construction.

Eclipse works well. It has good editors, and great refactoring capabilities. The best thing about it is that it's easily extendable... it is not too terribly difficult to write your own plug-ins. (Although it sometimes takes time to ferret out the information needed to do your particular task..) An expert is somebody who learns more and more about less and less, until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Oh well, you can't have it all. At least there is Tortoise CVS and WinCVS to ease the pain. Good luck convincing the management! -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist!
