Lost Clash tapes found...
-
"One of rock 'n' roll's great lost albums, the Vanilla Tapes, recorded by punk rockers the Clash in 1979, has been rediscovered, the Independent reported. It had long been assumed that the only known copy of the tapes - recorded before the band's seminal album, London Calling - had been lost in a London subway train by a drunken roadie who was taking them to a producer. But now, master tapes of the sessions have been found in a cardboard box by the band's guitarist Mick Jones as he prepared to move house, and 21 tracks are to be released for the first time later this year. Jones told the Independent that the tapes - which include five previously unknown songs - give an insight into the Clash as they were about to take their raw brand of politicised British punk to a truly global audience. "They were just sketches, really," he said. "But I'm glad I found them. They tell you quite a lot about what we were like at the time." This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of London Calling, as well as the second anniversary of the untimely death of the Clash's frontman Joe Strummer." http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/08/15/1092508234062.html[^] Later, JoeSox "Give me a lever long enough and a prop strong enough, I can single handed move the world." -- Archimedes joeswammi.com ↔ humanaiproject.org ↔ joeswammi.com/sinfest

Great news! :) One of my favouite bands, and my favourtie at the time (late 70s). They were a great band to see live and one of the best concerts I ever went to was the Clash at the Manchester Apollo with Theatre of Hate supporting - Kirk Brandon showing off his beer gut. Ah, halcyon days... I still listen to the first two Clash albums fairly often... "Oh, I'm sick of doing Japanese stuff! In jail we had to be in this dumb kabuki play about the 47 Ronin, and I wanted to be Oshi, but they made me Ori!"
