Hi, folks! What are your recomendations for a quiet cpu cooling system (heatsink/fan)? The one that came with my boxed AMD Athlon XP 2000+ has pooped out and I really don't know the market for these things. I'm not overclocking and don't want anything too esoteric. Thanks! 'til next we type... HAVE FUN!! -- Jesse

This looks like the one on my system (amd 2800) MicroFin[^] You could go thru EBAY and look for db ratings. That is what I did. I had a veriable speed but it ran on the upper range most of the time so was not any benefit. This one is Noise - 34.15 bB I do not mind getting old. It beats all the other options that can think of.

The Zalman "flower" style heatsinks get pretty good reviews. They are the ones that don't need a fan, which is nice if you're like me and hate too much fan noise. --Mike-- Personal stuff:: Ericahist | Homepage Shareware stuff:: 1ClickPicGrabber | RightClick-Encrypt CP stuff:: CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ ---- Laugh it up, fuzzball.

An Ultra-Quiet 92mm fan is supplied with the product but it is not mounted directly to the heatsink. Instead, it is suspended above it using an adjustable bracket which affixes to the PC chassis by sharing the two or three screws which are used to secure PCI/AGP cards. Taking this approach allows a larger fan to be used (92mm) which means the fan blades can rotate slower to produce a given amount of airflow with less noise. Looks like they do need a fan - just not part of the heatsink...:~ Steve
