      The situation was that MTV sold tickets to the public so it was not a media controlled event. Makes all the difference in the world.         Maybe / maybe not. According to my children (both teenagers and sometimes MTV viewers) there has been a lot of MTV air time spent encouraging people to register to vote and to get involved.
