Does anybody know where I can get a catalogue for electronics equipment, gadets e.g. small LCD displays? Basically something for hobbyists so I can connect my laptop to via serial and/or parallel ports and muck about. Also some small cameras. The catalogue needs to be UK based.:-D:cool: I am the handsome one in the crowd.

          Try Maplins Ryan.

FranzKlein wrote: The catalogue needs to be UK based. Now that's a challenge! I regularly use Digikey[^] and Allied Electronics[^], and I believe they both ship to the UK, but neither is based there. Both publish a paper catalog, as well as hosting a web-based catalog; Digikey has better pricing, but Allied has more selection. Maplin is best for consumer electronics but there's also RS and Farnell for more serious applications. For some more interesting and "out there" gadgets, try here[^] "Oh, I'm sick of doing Japanese stuff! I do a lot of electronics stuff, here are the supplies I use:- RS - General components (discretes mainly), some IC's too. Prices not amazing. Good service. Rapid (http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk ) - very good for some of the hard to find components, and generally sell in smaller quantities. And for all stuff like PIC microcontrollers, and LCD's, I get them from www.voti.nl - based in the netherlands but the prices are service are excellent. He has loads of different lcd modules. I never use maplin, they're pretty much a waste of space. Jon

Maplin is ok, but personally I prefer Rapid Electronics. They do all the sort of things like you said about - i bought an lcd screen for about £6 - alphanumeric 16x2 line. It's cool, though I havn't connected it up yet! :) go to www.rapidelectronics.co.uk, but their website isn't all updated yet - not all their products are there. also go to www.rapideducation.co.uk and look at their PDFs catalogues - there is one set of dead links but don't give up - it's accessable through another part of the website. you can also order a catalogue from them for about 3 or 4 £ - it may be refundable on your first order - I can't remember. You can do telephone, internet, fax or email ordering and although they say a few days delivery my experiance of them is next business day always. become a customer for free and they send you offers - I just got my updated catalogue for free! :p hope this helps. ------------------------------------------------------- ithium is the best.
