Sometimes the silence is the best music, but at this moment, I'm pleasing my ears with the Live CD, Mental Jewerly. It starts with 'Pain lies on the Riverside'. Do CPians have any good sugestions to listen while working ? Is anyone listening online radios ? Which ? Crivo Automated Credit Assessment

MP3's and Sonique, baby! It's nice, because whenever I start getting mental burnout, I can just look over at the player, which stays on top transparently, and watch the cool visual plugins for a minute or two. I especially like the 'miffo' plugin. Jamie Nordmeyer Portland, Oregon, USA

If I’m working on Code I listen to the Electronic stuff (yeah, same sound over and over) or some heavy rock (Metallica, Sepultura, that kind of stuff), it helps with the speed plus it puts your subconscious to work (while the conscience is listening to the music), plus is the only kind of music that goes with loads of coffee. If I’m working on the GUI, either Pink Floyd (The wall, dark side of the moon, whish you were here and animals it that order, plus some select tunes from the other disks). You know for the artistic mind, and there should never be a rush or distraction while you are making the GUI. If I’m making databases, or working on them. Nothing's better than a good opera (Verdi specially, or good marches). Nobody else seems to like it here, so they leave me alone while its playing, plus I like it. Rodrigo

Simon Shaheen - Arabic/Jazz fusion, amazing Oud player. (created some good GUIs on Blue Flame) Floyd - Early stuff (espec. Meddle) late at night. The rest (post DSOTM) (except Animals-never did like that) during the day. Mozart. I like "Eine Kliene Nacht Muzik" early in the morning. Clapton. ("Unplugged" for writing device drivers) ELP. "Brain Salad Surgery" for long debugging sessions :-) Steve T. I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Let's see... in my playlist right now:

            • Robert Johnson: The Complete Recordings
            • Rush: Counterparts
            • Rush: Hold Your Fire
            • Muddy Waters: Hard Again
            • Primus: Pork Soda
            • Enya: Watermark
            • Enya: Shepherd Moons

But that's just for downtime. I generally subscribe to the Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance philosophy of no music while doing something that requires brainpower. I was in denial for many years, but I've come to the conclusion that anything that takes cycles to process, even subconsciously, reduces the mental horsepower available for the task at hand. Cool - I love the Muddy Waters stuff with Johnny Winter. If you like Robert Johnson, you should check out Son House, especially his 60's recordings. Christian After all, there's nothing wrong with an elite as long as I'm allowed to be part of it!! - Mike Burston Oct 23, 2001

Right now I am listening to Tracy Chapman - Collection. Beautiful stuff. But most of the time I listen to dance/electronica music while coding. It keeps me up beat and full of energy. When I am having a bad day I switch to classical though, something sombre and powerful (the Gladiator soundtrack CD is very good for this.) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork?
