Ever heard of this problem?

Turn computer on. Log in. After logging in successfully, keyboard stops working. Using just the mouse, log off. Keyboard is now working again, type in password, log in successfully, keyboard is no longer working. This happened at my client, and of course it happened to the CEO fellow. And of course, when asked, he said "oh yeah, that's been going on now for a couple weeks". :~ No, I'm not looking for a diagnosis--they have a $125/hr network guy to fix these problems. I just write their software, hehehe. It's probably fixed by now, though, the network guy's first idea was, let's try a USB keyboard. Anyways, I thought it was pretty amusing. I've never seen that particular behavior before. They have virus checkers running all the time, but you never know. His kids use his computer a lot. X| Marc MyXaml Advanced Unit Testing

I wonder if the kids perhaps created a new hardware profile for him - one that doesn't include a keyboard. That could have some fun applications!:-D "My kid was Inmate of the Month at Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections Center" - Bumper Sticker in Bullhead City

I once had a Logitech USB Mouse that under Win 98 stopped the very moment it's (custom) drivers were installed. Removing it from the hardware list made it work again at next reboot - until drivers were istalled..
we are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is Vonnegut jr.

What Peter said. Also we had the exact same thing and found, this sounds weird and I can't explain it, that after cleaning the mobo and keyboard plug with some compressed air it worked fine. Yeah, sounds weird I know but it seemed to jolt something which when Windows loaded the kb drivers helped. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" I've had a similar problem with a Logitech wireless mouse. Installing updated drivers from their website fixed the issue however. Jeremy Falcon

Be sure to post back an explanation about it - I'd love to hear what caused the problem. I think one of the first things I would have done is to reboot to safe mode and try the keyboard after logging in. That would help narrow down the the problem set somewhat. Safe mode loads only the basic, generic keyboard driver, while a normal boot loads any special keyboard software that was installed with the hardware. Logging in loads any user specific settings and configuration details so varying the mix - safe/normal mode, logged out/logged in - can lead to some useful clues. Almost a year ago I had a Logitech wireless duo on my newer desktop. Anytime I used a full screen app, most noticeably games, with that keyboard/mouse plugged in the system would restart soon after. I switched to the new Microsoft elite duo and have not had a problem yet.

[erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is. -

My Computer (connected over an KVM-switch) runs sometimes in a similar problem: After some working time, the keyboard stops working. unpluging and then repluging on the KVM-switch solves the problem. But this problem only occured on this computer on the KVM-switch, the others never showed this behavier ('til now) Greets Roland

It is a new feature in the latest SP, as soon as a CEO logs on the keyboard gets disabled to prevent him from mailing promises of new functionality deliverable next week. /Magnus
