That sounds cool. Remember the gag about the Rolls Royce. The story went that a newspaper columnist was reviewing the latest Rolls Royce and was so impressed by it that he wrote (among other things) "at 60 mph the only sound you can hear is the ticking of the clock inside the car". Obviously that was meant as a compliment but the Rolls Royce engineers took that as a challenge and came up with the digital clock (using led's et al). Pretty neat huh ? "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

Or on my Nissan. :-D But then its really old .. so maybe they did do some work on it that I don't know about. What you got ? A Stratus ? I rented one of those recently (brand new) for a 400 mile trip. Was pretty nice. "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

The one time I ever drove a Rolls Royce, all you could hear was the sound of the back seat passengers screaming because they didnt have any seatbelts! Though this was a '64, and not exactly mint condition :) --- Dave

Weird, we never used to wear seatbelts in the back seat of a car, so it feels fine. Actually, we still hardly ever do. Front passengers yes, back no (I know we are supposed to, I've had the lecture, just one of those Never Did While Growing Up So It's Hard To Change things :)) I'll start when I fly through the windscreen. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" The perception that they cost more is a myth. I did a comparison earlier this year and found that if you build your own Wintel computer with name-brand retail parts and build a dual 64-bit CPU machine with the same amount of memory, the same video card, a decent sound card (not the crap sound card that's built onto current motherboards), a decent case and power supply, keyboard, mouse, hard drive(s), and DVD/CD writer, OS, and applications, you can actually spend less if you buy a Mac G5 tower. Further, you get a system that's more stable than ANYTHING running a Windows OS, and if you're into this kind of thing, you can even run Linux AND Windows software on the box. At some point, you have to add the weight of intangibles against the money you spend. The Mac is obviously the better value. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

It's not just the outside, it's also the inside. The new iMac runs under 25dB - that's quiter than a whisper. Jeremy Falcon

25db when idle. I imagine that when you actually do something with it, the CPU fans will spin up and it'll be a lot louder. Like most PC notebooks, really. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

It's obvious you've never used a Mac then. I've never owned a G5, but out of all the Macs I've had over the years they have usaully been quiter than a corresponding PC. Jeremy Falcon
