    Hello guys

My company's primary web scripting language is JSP [mainly cause our hosting servers all run Linux]. Now I'd like to know how or why I might be able to convince them to put a Win2K server out there and use ASP instead. I am kinda comfortable with elementary ASP but since I don't know JSP at all I cant make a suitable comparison.

    Regards

    Nish

Dude - JSP and ASP are so 1990's. ASP .NET. Trust me. (even Paul likes ASP .NET! And he's a VB developer! ) cheers, Chris Maunder (Sorry Paul - couldn't resist!)

Well, whatever. Help me convince them to put a Win2K box up there. Asp/Asp.NET. I don't think my management [totally Java/Linux based mentality] will even know the difference. Nish p.s. If I tell them that ASP.NET web sites run faster than JSP/Servlet/Beans based web sites, will I be lying??? It's ASP .NET, not Asp.NET. ;) See rant above. ASP .NET is way, way faster than JSP. Just check out MS's benchmarks for some pretty graphs. cheers, Chris Maunder

Chris Maunder wrote: (Sorry Paul - couldn't resist!) No problem :) In fact, as stated more than once, I have not used VB for about 6 months. It has been ASP all the way and it is rather frustrating. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork? If youre company is involve in Java/Linux then let it stay that way. JSP/servlet is a great technology, you should try it. Besides JSP looks like asp.net and C#.

Personally, I like running a FreeBSD system with Apache, MySQL, and PHP for the scripting language, but that's just me... ;-) -- Paul "I drank... WHAT?"

I second that. At first glance JSP seems to be modeled after ASP but then you look at ASP.NET it looks like that's actually modeled after JSP: 1. Java as the server-side language - equivalent to C# or VB.NET. 2. JSP pages are compiled into Servlets - ASP.NET pages are compiled too. Still, if I could choose, I'd go with ASP.NET: better tools and support, plus it's cool, hip, and happening. Regards, Alvaro
