How many litres in a gallon? I wish the US would go metric. I love everything else about this country. I bought a Dell XPS gaming system, started a fan site, and never looked back.

How many litres in a gallon? I wish the US would go metric. I love everything else about this country. I bought a Dell XPS gaming system, started a fan site, and never looked back.
One liter is close enough to one quart for most purposes. Different, but not enough to care when estimating. Therefore 1 US gallon = 4 quarts = 4 liters. Close enough, wrong, but not by enough that you would care. metric is not perfect. The largest advantage is everyone else uses it.

... you've got to be kidding. That's almost punitive gas prices. If I had to pay that much for gas I would consider carefully anywhere I drove.

Another case: here in South Africa they manufacture BMW luxury sedans for export to USA. They cost 30% MORE here than in the USA. What the? I believe it's because our society DOES NOT COMPLAIN. There are not enought watchdog groups. Not enough people making it their business to kick rip-off butt. We pay R4.42 per liter for petrol (gas), that's USD 0.67 per liter, about 38p in UK money. The price has gone up by 20% in the last 12-18 months. :(

A simple example: First, using imperial units The hold of a ship has a length of 20 yards, a width of 23 feet and a height of 5 feet and 2 inches: Please calculate the volume. Here in Australia it has crept up to AUD$1.05 (about USD$0.70-72) a litre which equates to I suppose USD$2.70-2.80 a gallon. Not as dear as the UK but still too much. It is these prices that probably get so many of us non-US citizens pissed off with the US's blase (the E should have a apostrophe thingy over it but I'm too lazy to try and find how to do it) attitude (I speaking generic not you personally) towards fuel usage with ridiculous sized SUV's and the like. Part of it could be jealousy of an economy/government that allows for the cheap prices, most though is knowing that the more that is used up the more our prices will be jacked up by the old supply and demand theory and greedy politicians.
