Friends, I am concerned. The emergence lately of frequent use of cuss-words and name-calling lately (see the "Microsoft have released details of..." thread). I know this sounds kind of stupid, but it really doesn't make the Code Project lounge a cool place to hang out when the posts are littered with "dumbass, whining b!tch, f***, and the like. The smileys are there to help you convey your emotions, and there are other ways to voice your opinions other than to swear and cuss other people out -- we have enough of that happening already in day-to-day life other places. If you tell me, the Lounge has kind of devolved into a "whine club" from when it used to have discussions about the world situations with the Bush presidency, the good and the bad of programming, and whatever else. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Yom Kippur, and whatnot. Let's please try to not have Lounge threads turn into some p*ssing and moaning, swearing, smoke-filled online strip bar. Hi Brian Kinda agree with you except when some total Linux-crazy-jerk comes here and abuses win32 OSs and developer tools. I mean most of these idiots probably installed RH7.1 two days ago and suddenly think they are shell-code experts and can't work on anything other than a shell. Take for example my initial post in the aforementioned thread: Now dare I say FUD? (after "f**king idiot" that is). That simply would not work as: Now dare I say FUD? (after ":mad:ing idiot" that is). Or any derivation of that. I did not want the word "f**k" to be read in an abuse or insultive way, but in the same tone as the rest of the sentance. Giving it undue appreciatation (through the use of an eyecatching smilie) would not be correct. That said however, I am totlaly shocked by some of the langauge used in the replies (and I'm not just talking cuss words), though I will not go so far as to say they were not called for. With all due respect Brian, you do not come accross as being the kind of person who would understand that cuss words are there for a reason, and are best used in certian situations. (I say this with reference to your web site as well as your posts here and below.) Hey, this is new, for once a language discussion not concerning C, C++, VB, C# or other variants. Mind you it may trigger a heated discussion as to which of the aforementioned ones could be considered "foul". As to the real subject: why care ? The importance of foul language is linear to the amount of attention it gets. If you do not like it ignore or skip it and it looses all significance. To illustrate: until further notice words do not kill, people's reactions to them on the other quite often do. For the person using it some anger and frustation may be vented. If I am reading something like that I generally notice some venting going on so I generally hardly notice. Also, "political correctness" can be so boring at times. All for now. Filip

Actually, both Windows and Linux weigh in at about the same level when we're talking about the number of security flaws. There was an article that compared this very thing (and it was even discussed here).
