The director at my previous company used to say he liked nothing better than walking into a room full of developers and hearin the sound of many keyboards furiously clacking away. I nearly told him in that case he should have hired typists, but I would probably have been discipline for insubordination, or insolence. This was a company where criticising the boss was a disciplinary offence. Maybe this guy was in a similar situation, where lots of idiotic code was considered better than an idol developer. The error messages have a certain cheek to them that supports this theory. My blog.

Speaking from a legal point of view, saying that the boss is an idiot and saying that you think that the boss is an idiot are two different things. The former can bring charges of slander and defamation against you while the latter is nothing more than your opinion.

unfortunately, yes, they could. I took over a project here that had a bug no one could find. I took one look at the code and requested to rewrite it. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING was in main() and any duplicate operations were handled by cut and past and changing variable names. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I once had to work on a program where there were about 380 or so classes and they were all inherited at various levels down into one single ultra master class. Some inheritance went 20 levels deep. Was the most insane thing to debug I've ever seen. And the problem was that the project was so massive we couldn't just 'rewrite' it.

And the problem was that the project was so massive we couldn't just 'rewrite' it. and in our case, I was refused permission to rewrite it, because "to rewrite it would be admitting it was written wrong in the first place. That would be a contract failure." However, somehow, during the long debugging failure things got organized a little.... edit: I mean debugging "process" or was that a freudian slip?? :( _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I'm pretty sure it's fake, or at least crashes regularly, the author is testing for null after a bunch of other tests, wouldn't it throw an exception or whatever vb does when you tried to find the length of a null string? I think most of those are fake on that site judging by the code, fake or embellished a *lot* because most of them wouldn't run and the poster always says it was taken from "production" code.
