I still think a privatized space program could do a LOT better than NASA. and please don't get me wrong I LOVE space exploration and all that other cool scifi stuff;):cool:

I realize this is a somewhat extremist view, but I view the public sector as more of a "let's do this in the interest of the public / pursuit of knowledge", whereas the private sector is a "let's do this so we can make more money." The second, isn't a bad idea, but when the money/profit aspect trumps the scientific aspect, that's where i have a problem. Especially with space. If you (the world in general) wants to muck up their own lands, that's their problem. But the space belongs to all, just like Antarctica. Soon we'll have border guards at 100 miles up and HUGE billboards that can be seen for miles around with "Coke" and "MacDonalds" on them. Or, I could be completely wrong, and privatized space program could be the Next Greatest Thing. And, technically, a govt-funded agency SHOULD be able to have access to unlimited funds. Money (for better or for worse) motivates people a lot. Therefore the profit motive for space flight is probably the fastest way to develop the technology. Government scientists are not always terribly motivated but private people wanting to make $ are.
