The cost of diabetes

BBC news item[^] This is linked to obesity. 5% of the NHS budget. Think what else could be done with that money. I'm not being sanctimonious because I've had weight problems but making very good progess. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

Be very careful. It seems to me that another round of social engineering is underway. Maybe you didn't smoke and never did so the Gov action against smoking seemed to be a good thing. Now its fast foods and soft drinks. Maybe you never had a weight problem and no familial history of diabetes so this doesn;t bother you. Next it will be something else. Good or bad it doesn't matter but sooner or later they are gonna hit on your turf with facts and figures and stats showing why your failure to behave like a good little citizen is costing so much money that the Gov feels it is in its best cause to remove the temptation. And when we are all a nation of little robots eating the proper foods and exercising the correct amount of time and doing all those fun things that are supposed to give us as close a chance at immortality as possible and nothing happens what are they gonna do. -- Oh well nevermind. Wow. :wtf: The cynicism just drips off the page. 5 for that. pseudonym67 My Articles[^] "They say there are strangers who threaten us, In our immigrants and infidels. Fine, let the bodies pile up Richard. I have had weight problems as I mentioned and it has been hard work to deal with particularly when on business trips with the portions resteraunts provide (4 months in a hotel in Nuremberg for example). Recently at Portsmouth the hotel had a bar/resteraunt which boasted of the enormous portions and forunately I found a snack menu which was a more than enough. It took some finding though. Certain types of diabetes are linked to obesity and sugar intake. Now as for heart disease... The tigress is here :-D

You really don't get it do you. I understand the problem . I just don't think that the Gov has any business in it. Lets assume for a moment that as an overweight person there are laws passed that prohibit you from flying in a airplane without paying double fare or eating at certain resturants or getting health insurance without paying a 50% surcharge. All this Gov mandated or approved. Just their little way to help you lose that weight. Say the Gov taxes all fast foods 25% and then sues the purveyours of said foods ( burgers, pizza, fish&chips,etc.. ) and gets about 2,000,000,000.00 to help the people that were harmed by their allegious actions - monies that of course will be spent elsewhere. And of course there will be no fat people allowed at public functions as they may offend the slinky skinny ones.. Oh well if you don't get it you will get it - get it. You can be a sheep or a sheep dog. Bow Wow Richard Richard "Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer --Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)

I get it, I was wondering if you would make any mention of getting people to take responsibility fortheir own actions. So, the question - if someone chooses to make thmesleves obese which results in long term health problems should others pay ? The tigress is here :-D

Trollslayer wrote: So, the question - if someone chooses to make thmesleves obese which results in long term health problems should others pay ? Sure why not. Standing on ones feet all day leads to foot and leg problems so let them pay also. Young drivers ( under 25 ) account for almost 1/2 of all accidents so lets make the legal driving age 26. Older people cause a disproportinate number of accidents so lets say no one over 60 can drive. Alcohol causes a great deal of misery - out with it ( I do believe that the nuts actully tried this at one time ). Premature babies cost a lot too - off with them. People who have a familial history of heart disease have a 45% greater chance of developing heart problems during their lives - let'em pay. Long life and healty lifes are primarilly genetic - so if your parents died before 75 or has a history of liver, lung, heart, or diabetes lets sterlize them - in 60 70 years everyone left will be healthy. Yep let'em all pay. Damn but some people can never see the forest for the trees. Richard "Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer --Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
