Hello, I've got a laptop to "repair" it seems that the Microsoft Office doesn't want to work... If I start the Word application, after a few seconds it hangs: it appears one message saying that:

Microsoft office word has detected one problem and that it must be closed.

It is possible that you lose all the work done.

[checkbox] recover the work and restart microsoft office.

    Inform Microsoft about this problem
    ...

Does anybody what can happen? I've reinstalled the office a few times, restarted the PC... I've also installed the SP2... Now I'm lost, I don't know what to do in order to be able to make it work. This is not my PC and I would like not to delete everything and reinstall it from scratch. Any idea about what to do? PS: it is an IBM R40 laptop.

Have you gone to the Office Update site? You did not mention the version, but maybe the global template (normal.dot) is corrupted - see [^] for info about checking this out. Steve

Try removing the 'normal' template and letting it create a new, default one. I once had this file corrupted and it caused the effect you're seeing. -- Andrew.

That is most likely a corrupt Normal.dot or Word trying to recover a previously damaged document. In addition to deleting the Normal.dot, try calling your Word with the /a switch. It kinda resets the settings back. e.g. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\winword.exe" /a Hope it helps, Edbert

I used to have the similer problem. What I do is reinstall the OS.
