Norton AntiVirus 2004 SUCKS!

yah, norton antivirus 2004 sucks, it makes almost every file on my computer corrupt :mad:. Of course this might have been aided by upgrading to xp pro, but I mean this is too much. Anyone out there with my view about this horrible program? EVIL_ONE
At work we are running NAV Corporate Edition on NT, 2000 and XP - no problems at all. At home I have NAV 2004 on XP - no issues. Igor.

I run it on all my desktop machines and not had any problems like you describe. The only issue I have had with Norton Anti-Virus was a year ago, when I was working on-site for a client. My laptop had to be logged into their domain and their group policies installed their anti-virus software (Trend). Having Trend and Norton both installed really screwed trying to access files across the network. It would completly lock my machine if I tried to access anything other than very small files. Yeah same here. I've never had any problems with NAV. It takes a little while to load, but after that there's no problems at all.

I did a test on my system and did a full scan with NAV and it took over 2.5 hours and did not find any at all. Then I put the demo version of NOD32 on my system and it scanned the entire thing in 25 minutes and found some viruses in an old mail file. Needless to say, NAV is no longer on my system. same here. I pay a bit of a speed penalty because of it but the piece of mind I get from it far outweighs that. Just one of many things I do to secure my machines. I like NAV.

I managed to consistently make XP bluescreen with NAV2004 installed just by right-clicking a folder in Explorer. If I disabled NAV, the machine worked perfectly fine. With NAV 2005, I got BSODs caused by SYMIDS.SYS up to 6 times a day. The instant I disabled NAV's "worm protection", the problem went away. This is on IBM workstations. 2 of my coworkers have machines identical to mine, and they're all seeing BSODs with NAV installed. We tried NAV 2003, 2004 and 2005. They all cause BSODs sooner or later, and the files blamed by the BSOD all point to some Symantec component.
