Happy New Year!!

I've just popped in at home to get changed (long storey) and I'm using this time to boot my computer while waiting for my lift, desipte the fact I can't get my mouse to move in staight lines no matter how steady my hands is, and I'm cursing the day I deicded to buy a "natural keyboard". I have to stop by and be the first guy from the UK to say "Happy New Year!",. Only three hours to go from Tiverton till Big ben strikes twelve and 2001 is no more. Lets hope this one is a little better for the industry, and all you unemployed people out there get your job. Who nows, maybe Linux users will all grow up so it might standa a chance against Windows. I see the new weeks poll our dear friedn Mr. Sergio (THe Informerical king) has voted! No one else USES capitols in the MIDDLE of sentances like HE does. I hope you get your new jobs and that you all have lots and plenty of fun visiting thios wonderfull web site for another whole year! Hopefully I will get around to doing the part two of Bo's Big Night Out (with Bruce ;)) this year, though I wont make any promisses. Have a good one everybody, and remember - no waking up bright and early tomorrow morning as it's no work tomorrow. At least here we ahve a bank holiday! Bye bye 2001! ________________ David Wulff http://www.davidwulff.co.uk "I wrote a program in Visual C++ that allows me to send over 5,000 GIGABYTES of Video to every computer and TV Set connected to the Internet in "0" SECONDS (YES! Happy New Year David!!! At this moment, 8 more hours to go for people in the New York time zone. I do have some good news about the economy. If manufactures updating, upgrading, and building new production sites is a good sign, then things look good. Our product is primarily used in industrial automation and we bottomed out in March-June. Sales haven't fully recovered, but the strength of the growth curve is great. Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

Happy New Year David! Most of Australia and New Zealand are probably still in bed dealing with the the effects of last night. One of the biggest problems of living in the southern hemisphere is that Jan 1 is a killer: you want to stay in bed (for days if possible) but it's always so hot and sunny that those of us without air conditioning have no choice but to crawl, proto-lifeform-like, out of bed as soon as the temperature reaches Hot and Sweaty. cheers, Chris Maunder

Happy New Year to you, as well! Unfortunately, I have to work in the morning, as somewhere along the line some moron (I think it may have been my boss, the VP, or maybe his boss) in my company decided it's the IT Manager's job to watch the month end programs run. Boring! Granted, if something goes wrong I'm the only one likely to be able to fix it, but when something does fail, it usually says something simple like "Press to continue..." Why is it so hard to hire a cheap clerk that is smart enough to do that? Of course if that doesn't work, the only other option is to call the support folks at the company that wrote the stuff - can you believe it's all written in Business Basic for DOS, and they won't even let me look at the source? These are the same support folks who call me to help them solve problems with their other customers' systems, but they won't even let me look at the code! What audacity... A humourous thought comes to mind, though, on this not-very-special New Year's Eve. What if the frenzied hunt for the Y2K bug a couple years ago was a misdirected effort. What if the real bug is still lurking out there, ready to crash all the elevators and espresso machines on 1/1/2002? I'll be entertaining myself with that pleasant thought all day (and much of the night) tomorrow! Have a nice one, all, and don't drink anything I wouldn't!
