I made brownies last weekend. Now, since brownies aren't really big in South Africa, I didn't really have anything to compare them to, so I'm not sure if they came out right. So, brownie experts, what is a brownie supposed to be like?

kind of a heavy choclate cake. (no levening, so it won't raise at all). Dark brown, almost black. Flakey, when you pick up a 2x2 (inch) piece by a corner, there are reasonable odds that some of it will break away. When you eat it crumbs will be all over. Thats the best I can describe it, but I don't consider myself an expert. Most importable: A good junk food. So if everyone tries it and likes it, you are close enough. If everyone hates it - well try something else.

For starters, brown. Sweet chewey and choclately without being sticky or undercooked. A brownie should be somewhere in taste and consistancy between fudge and choclate cake.

Wow! Congratulations on the new job. :jig: You certainly kept that quiet. You know you could have trusted me to keep quiet until the announcement... After all, Colin Davies let me know about WDevs, and I never said a word about it until it was announced. :-D Anyway, I'm sure you're going to have great fun.

Wow! What a variety of images - Just shows the diversity of the English language. In the UK the Brownies are an organisation for primary school age girls before they become Girl Guides (US:Girl Scouts).

Firm; much heavier and denser than chocolate cake. Only barbarians put icing on them. Walnuts or pecans are OK. Damn, now I've got the worst brownie jones going .
