I was planning to relocate to Indianapolis,Indiana in US Howz the place, people? Any indicators in the hi-tech job market there welcome.
I've been there recently on a business trip, and I found the town surprisingly charming (for the US  ). No idea about the tech market though.

I can't speak for Indianapolis specifically, but in general you'll find the people in the Midwest to be very friendly. I'm sure they'll make you feel welcome and at home. I've lived in a several parts of this great country and the Midwest has a wonderful atmosphere. However, the tech market is not hot out that way.

Hi-tech market is weak. Surrounding area great for families. If in the city, you need to be aware of areas, as in any farily large city there are drug problems. People are friendly, but cliquey. Housing is reasonable, can find some real bargains but there are also a lot of over priced homes especially in historical areas. There's is a college ( Butler ) right in the city. Sports teams: Colts always just shy of good, Basketball is king, AAA baseball. Headquarters of NCAA. If you're a race fan, you'll love it. State economy is depreessed, transitiong from manufacturing / automobile to something else (Life Sciences). Property taxes can be high. Income taxes aren't too bad - but there is also local on top of state. State is conservative. Indianapolis is disgustingly liberal. Lots of culture, museums, music, plays, etc. Downtown is really great. Public schools, mostly not good but not terrible either. Little in the way of public transportation. Hope that helps. I agree with Mike. The high-tech market is weak although there are some small-scale entrepreneurs working to improve it. The people of Indiana are primarily conservative and retrogressive although Indianapolis and Bloomington are exceptions. This is a great city for families, though. You can find affordable housing in some of the better suburbs, but the better inner city neighborhoods are pricey. Hope this helps. Andy

An old high-rise condo complex right on the edge of the 'hood. Interesting mix of people. For the most part, Indianapolis, or the surrounding area, is a wonderful place to raise a family, as long as your family doesn't expect a whole lot of excitement. If you bring some marketable skills to town I suspect you will have little trouble finding work right now. However, it is not the kind of place you want to come to in order to begin a career. In the Midwest, Chicago or Ohio would probably be a better bet.
