Kerala day
-
Today is the date of formation of my state Kerala. Long, long ago [can't remember the year], Kerala was formed by merging all Malayalam [official language]- speaking areas. In other words, today is Kerala's b'day :). Not a holiday, nor a special day for the common man, but lots of activity by the politicians and the literary people. All men and women [mostly students and working people] wear traditional dresses and that is a great sight. Happy birthday Kerala! Sorry friend. I work from home, so did not go out in the traditional dress. But I have searched in the net to find just a single photo of women in traditional dress lighting a lamp: http://keralacenter.tripod.com/onamlamp.jpg[^]. I went to Kerala in 1999 with my now wife. We spent six months in India, travelling around, and Kerala was our favourite place overall. So happy birthday. Isn't Trivandrum now known as Thiruvanthurapam (or something similar)?

Yup, Thiruvananthapuram. But Trivandrum is still valid too. Most people can't spell and/or pronounce the new word (which is a malayalam word incidentally). Nish p.s. When you were in Trivandrum, which hotel did you stay at?

Not a state holiday today. The Chief Minister did not even declare a holiday for the football victory the state had in the national football championship :( Thanks anyway! Regards Smitha Every problem has a gift for you in its hands. -- Richard Bach
