Media Player 10

I LOVE Windows Media Player 9 so when I saw that 10 was out I instantly downloaded it. PURE C%^P! Every file I launch it starts playing and then freezes up. The file still plays but the UI goes cold and I have to kill it in task manager. Even if I just open Media Player itsefl with no file the UI locks dead and I have to kill it. Revert back to 9 and things work fine. Hmmmmmm....

Windows Media Player... I just use version 6.4 (The one that comes with Windows 2K). For playing my media I always use WinAmp... but not the new AOL-ed one (arh!) the trusty old 2.9 version.

For me the same. But why using WMP? take a look on Winamp or on opensource players at sourceforge.
Landarzar wrote: But why using WMP? take a look on Winamp Winamp is crap when compared to WMP, IMHO. The free version cannot encode or rip MP3s and WMAs. It can't burn to CD. It installed keyboard hooks all over my machine.. what the hell gives Winamp the right to intercept my keyboard strokes, load iself, and eat the message when I'm using an application like Visual Studio etc etc etc. Plus, WMP integrates nicely with my operating system in an unobtrousive way and provides all the features that Winamp Pro does and it offers them for free. Works fine for me but one of the guys in work had a similar problem. I think is was something to do with some of the codecs that he had downloaded previously. Regards, Brian Dela :-) Now Reading: Code Complete 2ed[^] by Steve McConnell

Ray, I've been running 10 since beta and have had absolutely no problems. Best, Jerry

That sounds like you have a bad codec (audio with no video is a common problem when you play a DivX movie but don't have the DivX codec). If you had any 3rd-party codecs with WMP 9, I'd reinstall them after installing WMP 10. --Mike-- LINKS~! Ericahist | 1ClickPicGrabber | CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ | You Are Dumb

While I use WMP10 at home and WMP9 at work (Win2K), I always use CDEX for encoding as it does such a good job. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/[^]

I'll second that. I've used CDex to rip virtually my entire music collection, and I've never had a single problem with it. Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. Had the same problem: played the first 2 seconds of the file, then the video froze, and clicking anywhere did nothing, then then after 20 seconds, it became responsive again. Back to WMP9 i went.
