So... after waiting 5 years, who else is going to be spending some time in City 17 after midnight tonight (Seattle time)? It's times like this I wish I didnt' have a job for a little while.

I will be, if by "midnight" they mean EST or GMT. However, if it's PST, I think I'll just have to wait until tomorrow :( -- Russell Morris "So, broccoli, mother says you're good for me... but I'm afraid I'm no good for you!" - Stewy

I am almost ashamed to admit this but... ... I might actually wait to play HL2 until after Xmas. On a lark I purchased Everquest 2 last week. I've not played any EQ before, played Shadowbane for a couple weeks (yuk) and then I dabbled with Dark Age of Camelot, which was decent, and thought EQ2 might be able to sway my feelings of uneasiness in MMORPG products. Well, I am quite impressed with it... enough that I don't want to have HL2 cutting into my Everquest 2 gaming. I cannot beleive that this is true; I may even break down tomorrow night because I have to pick up my HL2 pre-order after work tomorrow... but if I can hack it, I'll push off playing HL2 until after Xmas. As I said... I am almost ashamed to admit it. : Dean 'Karnatos' Michaud

I haven't bought a game since.. well.. the last Half Life but I am seriously thinking about getting HL2 sometime. It looks awesome, far more my thing than Doom 3. Still, I will wait for the reviews and hopefully a demo before I put down 300 hard-earned shiny-leaves. So Vivendi aren't screwing it up for Valve then? regards, Paul Watson South Africa Michael Dunn wrote: "except the sod who voted this a 1, NO SOUP FOR YOU" Crikey! ain't life grand?

Paul Watson wrote: So Vivendi aren't screwing it up for Valve then? Not to the degree that was rumoured, no. It's officially out at midnight tonight for both retails boxes and internet purchases direct from Valve. It's a pretty innovative concept for licensing and games in general: Unlock both simultaneously over the internet for everyone around the world at the exact same moment. If you buy the box you still can't play until their server unlocks you and those of us that purchased direct from Valve via Steam have had the whole code for the game on our systems for some time now. How their servers are going to cope is up in the air, if judging by the sheer numbers is any indication they are going to have an unbelievable internet traffic spike on their hands all in one moment in time from around the globe. It's pretty unprecendented technical feet to accomplish and really their only Achilles heel as I can see it. If you buy the game and can't play it after waiting 5 years to do so because of some kind of glitch with their authentication servers it's going to be a world of bad P.R. for them. I'm thinking of staying up late (in the same time zone) just to see how it works out. The thing about Half life is that your not just buying a game, your buying a whole story, more atmosphere than jupiter etc etc. It's an experience way beyond most games and after reading about the hell they put themselves through to ensure it would meet people's expectations I'm really looking forward to it.

I bought the collector's edition from vivendi universal games store. They should be overnighting it to me tomorrow so I'll have it wednesday.

This demographic will quite happily click on shiny things however:laugh:

Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.
