I know that from time to time, here, in Quebec there are notice of unclaimed money from the government. I believe it's "normal".

Does walking over to the property and sticking a flag into the ground constitute claiming the property!? ;) Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.

Probably not. Inside Edition had a story about unclimed money in the USA. Check out http://www.insideedition.com/usa_map.htm[^] to see if you've "won" anything. :) "For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you would never have considered. Not a scam, I've seen several news stories about it. (It's also on the ca.gov domain, which adds to the authenticity.) --Mike-- LINKS~! Ericahist | 1ClickPicGrabber | CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ | You Are Dumb

Looks legit. In fact, I remember some time ago I got a letter from a bank saying I had a couple hundred bucks overpaid in a credit card account and that if I didn't claim it by a certain date, it would be given to the state. Of course, I put it on my TODO list and didn't see it again until long after that date. Then, since the date had passed, I wrote it off as another cost of procrastination. Since I'm a Californian, I put my name into the site you linked to and voila, there it is. It is a strange that anyone can put my name in there and see my personal information, though. I guess my home address is not a state secret. I guess this isn't a good method to hide large amounts of money, either. So, now I all I have to do is jump through the necessary bureaucratic hoops to get this cash. I think I'll just put that on my TODO list for now... Matt Gerrans

Lots of states have such a program, including mine.

No, that is not a scam. I've received a check from them for money that couldn't find me after I'd moved. Dave Goodman dgoodman@infoway.com www.dkgoodman.com "Actio sequitur esse."

What really surprised me was what the Florida State office did recently... they actually mailed out letters to anyone they were holding more than $100 for. Real nice letter stating that due to the hurricane damage across the state they wanted to be proactive in getting people money that was owed to them. My wife had some uncashed paychecks from when she worked as a server more than a decade ago and an unclaimed utility deposit. She had to provide proof of who she was, etc. I couldn't believe it when a check arrived a few weeks later.
