Just wondering, has anyone here had any luck with freelance programming jobs, like the ones found through Rentacoder.com? I know that most of the jobs I've seen there were pretty cheap pay, so they must be advertising what they will pay according to overseas' prices. Are there any that pay decent amounts for an American programmer? If I write code in my sleep, does that make me brilliant, or just a lazy programmer? Well, you will probably not find much out there if you plan to make above minimum wage :) Over the last couple of years I have checked into some of the sites, but most of the time they are sell contracts that should take 50 hours or more for $500-$1000, and they still have several bidders. If you browse through some of their listing, find those that are the top bidders and how much they earned from it. Usually it will be quite low for all the work they do. Here is a bit more with several links for this type of sites, I plowed through about a month ago: www.hintsandtips.com/ShowPost/255/hat.aspx[^] If you really want to do some work, you might look into your local area. If you are not much of a sales person, find someone who has the gift of gab and educate them enough to promote you on a commision basis. Only takes a few locals to make a living. thanks! I appreciate your honesty and you have given me some encouragement if I decide to go into doing that. If I write code in my sleep, does that make me brilliant, or just a lazy programmer? My articles www.stillwaterexpress.com BlackDice - the programmer formerly known as bdiamond

IMHO I wouldn't even bother...people going to those sites are looking for the cheapest deal...and always go over seas. You'd have better luck finding someone yourself...someone who isn't aware of how to find outsourced programmers...or doesn't care to bother... Like previous said...if your not a salesman (like me) it's best to partner with someone who has the gift of the gab... Now all i'm working on is my initial ice breaker sales pitch for web development/web applications...so my sales person doesn't sound like an idiot  Cheers :) How do I print my voice mail?

you also get what you pay for. I have made some decent money off people that have tried rac and gotten a cheap deal. Most of the time the programmer screws it up and I can charge my normal rate to fix it or rewrite it. I have also done good work on a project for people on rac and had them convert to a customer of mine at my normal rates a couple of times. I use rac to fill in the gaps in work and every once and a while I end up with a good client from it.
