So it seems P2P and kin are not harming the music industry as the RIAA and family would have you believe. Album sales are at record levels in the U.K. Sales of singles are up too thanks to online buying though this article seems to indicate they are not counting iTunes, Napster v2 and the MSN Music Store which should make for substantial gains (iTunes sold a million tracks in it's first month of operation if I remember right.) Dido* ruled the charts which I can live with as she isn't the drivel that Will Young and others are. Come on RIAA, rip that carrot out and embrace the future. * Her full name is, take a deep breath now, Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong :| I'll keep calling her Dil... uh, never mind. regards, Paul Watson South Africa Michael Dunn wrote: "except the sod who voted this a 1, NO SOUP FOR YOU" Crikey! ain't life grand?

Album sales are at record levels in the U.K. I believe it's pretty much the same in the US too, they have traditionally made all their money from single sales though, which is what they're moaning about. I think it's because it's much easier to download a single track that you've heard on the radio or something than it is to download an album. So you hear the track, decide you actually like it, then buy the album. They however don't make as much money that way. David Parrott

The reason sales are so high in the UK, as the article quickly skips over, is because of online retailers importing their CDs from other EU states at less cost driving the costs down for all. When something costs just £4 less than they are used to people will think "wow, I can get two for only a little more", and so on until people are regularly buying hundreds of pounds of music each month when before thewy would maybe buy two or three albums. I expect the increase in music DVDs sold is down to the online retailers too - places like play.com make it easier to find releases by an artist than flicking through endless cases at a high street store.
