32 years old and I have purchased my first house. I could not believe I had been in rented accommodation for over 10 years. It was time to change all of that. Well I have done it. Just over two months of sleepless nights, endless calls to my estate agent and solicitors but it is now a done deal. :-D Yea I know, most people may think what's the big deal but I am over the moon. It is a two storey (flat) maisonette with two double bedrooms, bathroom, lounge, dining room and kitchin. With loft space in order to store all the junk I have accummulated over the years! Situated in Hitchin a small town in Hertfordshire England. So if any of you need an excuse to go out for a drink this week, say that one of your fellow CPians has just bought his first house so you are going out to celebrate! ;) Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.

Heh...  When I had my house built ~5 years ago, I had Ethernet drops in every room (yes, every room, including the bathrooms! :)), and even ran extra drops myself to the master bedroom and my office, all terminating in the wiring closet.    Little did I know that wireless connectivity would come this far in such a short amount of time...!    I do not reget having the wired Ethernet, though, good for development/testing across different machines (databases) and having friends over for multiplayer gaming.  But my Tivo and the "house laptop" make good use of the wireless connectivity...    Peace! -=- James Tip for inexperienced drivers: "Professional Driver on Closed Course" does not mean "your Dumb Ass on a Public Road"!

Congratulations, but really the fun has only just begun! I bought my house when I was 19 and have been fiddling about with it ever since. You can tell it is a mans house because virtually everything in every room is operated by a single remote - from the lighting and heating to the cinema and everything inbetween. I opted to go for WiFi rather than dig holes in all the walls, with a router in the central bedroom and bridges in the main technology areas. The last few months I have been building a new games room, and finally I have added a small room specially vented / ups powered / networked for the computer equipment that previously took up the spare bedroom. Now I can still surf CP when the road crew cut through my electricity mains. It really is amazing how much you can change the way you live with relatively simple and cheap technology - I can't wait to see what the rest of this decade brings.* * I have my heart set on building a VR room one day. Imagine playing VR Half-Life when a headcrab leaps up at your face! When I have recouped a bit more money I want to try and extend the wireless coverage to the bottom of my garden and put a small wooden hut up there so I can go outside during daylight hours and get some of this 'sun' thing people talk about. I have plans for the garden next year too, the decking fad has passed and it really is impractical in the rain. Once I've done that I'll probably sell up and start again elsewhere - it would be boring as hell once it's all done. :) Are you doing this on your own, or with a partner? If it's on your own then make the most of it. If it's with a partner then good luck - I hope you like arguments (and yes, thankfully the paint colour always looks better after it, and your eyes, have dried). I'm not drinking alcohol at the moment, decided I needed a break many months ago, but I'll raise a glass of coke to your venture. Now where did I leave that damned remote...

Congratulations Antony. It is without doubt a big deal and something you will always remember and be proud of. I bought my first (half a) house some 25 years ago and it has been quite amazing watching it get sold over the years and the big increases in price each time. These days we live in a reasonably big house which we bought and substantially renovated 10 years ago. There is CAT5 cabling everywhere, a full phone and security system, home theartre, swimming pool & spa, great views in a great suburb. We both work from home with dedicated offices which is very nice. It is two stories in the front and 3 at the back as we are on a sloap. The house has pretty much everything we want and could ask for and we are very happy here.:-D Have fun doing whatever you do with your new home and enjoy every minute of it. I'm in the process of deciding! I will need at least one wireless router and 1 wireless NIC or cable cat5 around the house. May just go wireless. Seems like it would be easier. Ant.

If I was to use wire I would only need to wire from one of the bedrooms down to the lounge (that is where my cable access point will be). It is being installed tomorrow! Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.

I'm in the process of deciding! I will need at least one wireless router and 1 wireless NIC or cable cat5 around the house. May just go wireless. Seems like it would be easier. Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.

So you will still be in the process of sorting things out I suppose? I am giving the paintwork a once over just to give it my touch. It is hard work but I am enjoying it. Ant. I'm hard, yet soft.

I've got the last bits of unorganized boxes, pictures, etc... stuffed into one room. I need to get some new bookcases or cabinets to sort it out. I still need to paint upstairs, it looks barren still. Piece by piece it'll come together. It is a blast though. I don't even mind the yardwork. BW The Biggest Loser
