I just had my first Blue Screen for Windows XP SP2 after a year of having Windows XP. Has anybody else had blue screen crashes? I am the handsome one in the crowd.

more detailed information needed to solve the problems, such as error message, what you did recently, what's the configuration of your pc, have you changed any hardware/software.... then, I may have an idea what's the problem:)

Yes, though for two distinct reasons. First reason: Gateway, needless to say I no longer buy gateways. The second reason: ram being pushed beyond its limit (ie extreme overclocking) Matt Newman

I had one a few weeks ago...it rebooted and everything was OK...my theory: a cosmic ray (or maybe even a tachyon) hit a critical DRAM cell and flipped a bit... Steve

Yeah but it was my video card not the OS. Turns out the ATI Mobility 9700 does NOT support Write Combining. Disabling it fixed that problem.

This demographic will quite happily click on shiny things however:laugh:

Just for once, I really wanted to use a Java applet in a web page, which didn't work with the Microsoft VM. I had to go and install the Java runtime. On closing the window that contained the applet, the system blue-screened, with the finger pointing at the graphics driver (nVidia, GeForce Ti4800SE). Two issues: first, Sun's applet drawing code is so slow they've used DirectX to accelerate it, rather than use GDI (leading to an annoying flicker as Java starts and quits). Second, nVidia's drivers can still be a little flaky. Anyway, I updated the video drivers (the new set were all of three days older than the version I had) and the problem went away. I then uninstalled the Sun Java runtime. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

now and then, but it's my fault.... I occassionaly replace the Jump instruction with JRL (Jump to random location).... So far I have survived one accidental HCF (halt and catch fire) operation, and have so far managed to catch all EOI (execute operator immeadiately) operations prior to operational testing.... :-O _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau.
